15 Products

Replacement products is the least conspicuous category in the shop, and the one with the best ratio of effort to impact. 15 items live here, ones you rarely order the first time round but almost always the second: rollers, frames, trays, spatulas, sanding blocks. All things that get used up during the project while the rest of your kit is long since paid for.

Buy replacement rollers, roller frames and accessories

The idea behind this category is an old one: not everything that looks worn needs replacing. A frame lasts many projects, a roller lasts one. That's why both parts are listed separately here — the Paint Roller Large – Replacement Roller, white, 25 cm and the Paint Roller Small - Replacement Roller - 11cm just as much as the Roller Frame Large - Replacement Frame, 25 cm and the Roller Frame Small - Replacement Frame, 11cm. If you're starting from scratch, go for the combination: Paint Roller with Frame Large - 25cm for the surface and Paint Roller with Frame Small - 11 cm for everything else.

The paint to go with it is mixed individually only after you order — in 2.5, 5 and 10 litres, matte or silky-matte. Tools and paint ship together: 3 to 5 working days from receipt of payment, within Germany.

Keep the frame, change the roller

This isn't a money-saving formula, it's simply the order in which tools actually wear out. The frame is a piece of wire with a handle; it barely wears at all. The roller, on the other hand, absorbs paint, gets washed, dries out, and mats down. After two or three projects it no longer applies paint evenly, and that's exactly what shows up on the wall afterwards: streaky bands, uneven coverage, lap marks that don't disappear even with a second coat.

In practice, that means: one set of frames, several rollers. And during an ongoing project, it's better to have one roller too many in the house than one too few, because an interrupted paint job is the most common cause of visible lap marks. For how to avoid these marks, see the magazine article Painting Walls Without Streaks.

11 or 25 centimetres: which size for what

The large roller at 25 cm

It's the workhorse for walls and ceilings. On an open surface, it applies enough paint in just a few passes to keep the edge wet while you start the next one — the real trick to even painting. In a cluttered room it's unwieldy, which is why the combination of large and small makes more sense than two of the same size.

The small roller at 11 cm

It takes care of everything the large one can't reach: strips between window and corner, areas behind the radiator, alcoves, skirting areas, narrow wall sections next to doors. For a single accent wall in a small room, it's often the better choice too, since it's easier to control.

The lacquer roller for smooth surfaces

The Lackwalze klein - Ersatzwalze, 11 cm isn't a replacement for the wall roller, but made for a different task: smooth surfaces like door panels, furniture fronts and shelf boards. Wall roller and lacquer roller shouldn't be swapped — a roller that's worked on rough wall leaves a texture on a lacquered surface that you'll see afterwards.

What else people restock besides rollers

Tray and roller grid

The Farbwanne - klein is a consumable in the broader sense: it survives many projects, but rarely the one where the paint dried in it. The Profi-Abstreifgitter aus Metall hangs directly in the bucket and is the faster solution when you're working straight from the container instead of the tray.

Filling and repairing

Before the first coat, repairs almost always come first. The Spachtelmasse repair filler 1 kg is made for cracks, drill holes and unevenness and has strong filling power. It's applied with the Doppelfederspachtel; the Heber für Spachtelmasse lifts it cleanly out of the container, so you don't have to reach in with the spatula.

Sanding and masking

After filling comes sanding: the Schleifblock – Körnung 120 for the rough work, the Schleifblock – Körnung 220 for the final pass before painting. Then comes masking, for which the Abdeckfolie 2 x 25 m is also in stock in this category.

Restocking, calculated by room

Living room and ceilings

The greatest consumption happens where there's the most surface. For an average living room with ceiling, plan on a large roller for the surface and a small one for the edges. Ceilings are especially hard on a roller, because overhead more paint runs back into the roll.

Bedroom

The calmest case: lots of open wall, little fiddly detail. Here one roller size is usually enough, complemented by a brush for the ceiling edge.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, the whole wall is rarely painted — just what's left between the cabinets. That's a lot of small areas — a clear case for the 11 cm roller. Anyone tackling the fronts as well will also need the lacquer roller.

Hallway and stairwell

This is where the most tools get used up: many edges, often two floors, plus door frames and skirting boards. For stairwells, a second roller is worthwhile for one simple reason: the sections take several hours, and a roller that's dried out midway up the stairs helps no one.

How much paint belongs with which equipment

Tools alone don't tell you the quantity. The calculation is based on area: approx. 6 to 8 m² per litre and coat. With two coats, that means approx. 8 to 10 m² from 2.5 litres, approx. 15 to 20 m² from 5 litres and approx. 30 to 40 m² from 10 litres. Dark, strongly coloured or uneven surfaces use more.

The surface underneath must be load-bearing, clean, dry and free of loose particles. If the plaster is fresh or highly absorbent, a primer is recommended: more even drying, less consumption, and sometimes one less replacement roller. And before the first litre goes on the wall, it's worth taking a look at the Farbmusterbox 65 Stk — a sample in your own light beats any screen.

A different order applies for lacquer

Anyone painting furniture, doors or wood doesn't work the way they would on a wall. First comes re-box core as an adhesion primer, which bonds well on a wide variety of surfaces. This is followed by re-box protect, the furniture and colour lacquer in satin sheen, resistant to mechanical stress and everyday soiling. In between, there's usually a sanding step. How this works on a door without removing it is explained in the magazine under Tür lackieren ohne Ausbauen.

Frequently asked questions about replacement rollers and accessories

Which replacement roller fits which frame?
The sizes are matched to each other: 11 cm rollers belong on the small frame, 25 cm rollers on the large one. So when reordering, just check the centimetre measurement in the product name, and it'll fit.

How often do I need to change a roller?
When it no longer applies evenly or stays stiff after washing. A matted roller leaves streaks that even a second coat won't cover. For a large project spanning several days, a second roller is therefore no luxury.

Can I use the same roller for wall paint and lacquer?
Better not to. The lacquer roller is made for smooth lacquered surfaces, the paint roller for walls and ceilings. A roller that's worked on rough plaster will otherwise transfer that texture onto the lacquered surface.

Do I need to wash out the roller between two coats?
No, not if the break is short. For a few hours, it's enough to wrap the roller airtight so the paint doesn't dry out. Wash it out at the end of the project — thoroughly and with clear water, otherwise it'll be unusable next time.

How long does delivery take?
3 to 5 working days from receipt of payment. Shipping is by parcel within Germany, at no extra cost. Since processing only begins once payment has been received in full, it's worth ordering extra supplies upfront rather than mid-project.

Can I return replacement products?
Only individually mixed paints and boxes containing such paint are excluded from the right of withdrawal. Tools don't fall into this group. Separately marked white goods can be returned as long as they're undamaged and in their original packaging.

Spachtelmasse hält angebrochen dicht verschlossen mehrere Monate.
