Renovation boxes are the answer to that half hour in the hardware store aisle, working out how much paint you actually need and whether the roller matches the surface. Six boxes to choose from, each tailored to a specific project: door, staircase, furniture, kitchen, everything in white, or a room in colour. Paint, tools, masking materials and instructions, all together in one box.
Buying a renovation box: one project, one box
The difference to ordering individually lies in the maths you don't have to do. How much paint your surface needs has already been worked out, and that exact amount is in the box. No converting, and ideally, no reordering.
For walls and ceilings, the box contains wall paint — matt as re-box base one (matt) or satin matt as re-box silk matte WEISS (satin matt), in 2.5 l, 5 l or 10 l. For doors, stairs, furniture and kitchen fronts, the furniture and gloss lacquer re-box protect is used in 750 ml, preceded by the primer re-box core. Every shade is mixed individually only after your order — including the white tones.
The six boxes in detail
Renovation box "Paint walls in colour"
The box for the one room that's finally getting some colour — the mood-booster that doesn't need any renovation work. It's for anyone painting for the first time who'd rather open a ready-made package than work through a shopping list. What exactly is included is listed on the page for the Renovation box "Paint walls in colour".
Renovation box "Everything in white, please!"
For when a whole flat needs to go back to square one — after moving out, before moving in, after years of nicotine or picture nails. The Renovation box "Everything in white, please!" is the option for large surfaces in one shade.
Renovation box "Door upgrade"
In the hallway, your eye lands on the doors first, and only then on the wall behind them. The Renovation box "Door upgrade" brings lacquer and tools for the journey from a yellowed standard door to a surface that looks the way you meant it to.
Paint the staircase
A wooden staircase takes a beating from shoes every day while standing right in the middle of view. The Paint the staircase set is built around the layering the lacquer needs: first the primer re-box core, then re-box protect.
Paint furniture
The wardrobe from your first flat, the chest of drawers from the flea market, the shelf that no longer matches: Paint furniture is the box for anything that isn't hanging on the wall but can still take some colour.
Paint the kitchen
Lacquered fronts transform a kitchen without you having to replace it. Paint the kitchen covers fronts and walls in one go. You'll find the detailed guide in the magazine under Painting a kitchen: guide, costs, colour.
How much paint is really in a box
So you can gauge the quantity, here's the rule of thumb we use ourselves too: One litre covers approx. 6–8 m² per coat. With two coats, that works out to
- 👉 approx. 8–10 m² from 2.5 l,
- 👉 approx. 15–20 m² from 5 l,
- 👉 approx. 30–40 m² from 10 l.
On very dark, strongly coloured or uneven surfaces, consumption can go up. In that case, calculate a bit more generously rather than running short by half a square metre at the end. You'll find out how to estimate your surface yourself in How much wall paint do I need?.
Matt, satin matt or lacquer — what belongs in which box
Wall paint has two options: the amount and the finish. Matt is the calm surface for walls and ceilings, satin matt the hard-wearing, easy-to-clean option for surfaces that get touched. The price depends only on the quantity, not the finish. Both are water-based, low in emissions and made in Germany.
Lacquer is a material in its own right, not just wall paint with a different sheen. re-box protect has a satin sheen and stands up to mechanical stress, everyday dirt and outside influences — which is why it's part of the boxes for doors, stairs, furniture and kitchens. The same shade is available for both: you'll find 65 colour names in both the wall paints and the lacquer colours.
Which box suits which room
Living room
Large wall surfaces, few special cases: here it's mainly about quantity and shade. Changing the colour of a single wall often transforms a room more than a complete repaint in white.
Bedroom
Calm tones, plenty of wall behind furniture, low wear — matt is enough in most cases. Plan for the wall behind the bed first; it's the only one you look at every day.
Kitchen
This is where the most comes together: wall, fronts, often the door too. Satin matt on the wall and lacquer on the fronts is the usual combination here.
Hallway
Doors, frames, light switches, scuff marks on the skirting board. If you're only doing one thing in the hallway, do the doors — the difference is visible by evening.
Staircase
Steps and stringers need lacquer and a game plan, so the stairs stay usable throughout. The order for this is described in Treppe streichen: Anleitung für die Holztreppe.
Order, delivery and cancellation
Delivery takes 3–5 working days from receipt of payment. Shipping is by parcel within Germany, and processing starts once payment has been received in full.
One point that matters with boxes: all paints are mixed individually for you and are therefore excluded from cancellation and exchange. If a renovation box contains mixed paint, this applies to the entire box. Separately marked white goods, meaning unmixed base material, can be returned as long as they're undamaged and in their original packaging. The details are on the Retoure page.
Check the shade first, then order the box
Because mixed paint can't be returned, choosing the colour is the step you shouldn't skip. The Farbmusterbox 65 Stk contains all 65 shades as samples, which you can hold up against the wall in your own light — in the morning, in the evening, on a north-facing wall and on a south-facing wall.
If you're torn between two shades, the Farbfinder can help. And Anna, re-box's digital colour consultant, gives you a recommendation on colour, finish and quantity that goes beyond a simple square-metre calculator. If you still need tools for a second room, you'll find them in Farbzubehör.
Frequently asked questions about the renovation boxes
What's included in a renovation box?
Every box contains the paint, the matching tools, covering material and instructions. The exact contents vary depending on the project and are listed on the respective product page.
How do I know if the amount of paint is enough for my room?
The quantity is calculated for the project the box is made for. As a rule of thumb, count on roughly 6–8 m² per litre and coat: with two coats, 5 L is enough for approx. 15–20 m².
Can I choose the shade in the box freely?
Yes, the paint is mixed individually for your order. You choose the shade from the range, and it goes into the box in exactly the calculated amount.
Can I return a renovation box?
No, once mixed paint is included, the entire box is excluded from cancellation. That's why it's worth checking the shade beforehand with the Farbmusterbox.
Do I also need a primer?
For wall paint, a primer isn't a must, but it's recommended on highly absorbent or fresh plaster. For lacquer, however, the order is fixed: first re-box core as an adhesion primer, then re-box protect.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery takes 3–5 working days from receipt of payment. Shipping is by parcel within Germany.
Is a box worth it if I already have tools?
If your roller, brush and covering material are on hand and in good condition, you're better off ordering just the paint. The box is worth it if you're starting from scratch or lacquering a door for the first time and don't yet have the order of steps in mind.
